Seek and Serve

BalaVihar

Introduction

Balavihar Kids

"Children are not vessels to be filled, but lamps to be lit. The seed of spiritual values should be sown in young hearts, and the conditions made favorable for sprouting and steady growth through proper control and discipline. It must be cared for with the warmth of love and affection, and such a tree shall blossom forth flowers of brotherhood, universal love, peace, bliss, beauty, and Perfection".     - Swami Chinmayananda.

The Chinmaya BalaVihar program offers weekly spiritual Vedanta classes for children in their formidable and molding years (5-12 years). The classes are categorized by varying age groups, start and end with Sanskrit prayers, and include chanting, stories of devotion and values, interactive discussions, and creative crafts. To inculcate in our children and youth a reverence for our ancient culture, and inspire them to live up to it with correct understanding
Our motive is to:
1.    To develop love and respect for God and the world we live in.
2.    To create self-confidence so that they are able to seek, serve and act cheerfully
3.    To generate personal discipline and true affection in all their contacts
4.   To help our children and youth develop a healthy resistance against temptations, inside and outside
5.    To provide an atmosphere of growth that is filled with noble ideals, healthy emotions, and physical discipline.

Curriculum

We follow the standard Chinmaya Mission curriculum. However, based on current availability of Sevaks/Sevikas (teachers) - we have 5 different classes starting from age 5yrs.

Chinmaya Bala Vihar Curriculum

(Updated Sep. 2011)
Age Group Text/Theme Subject Content Prayer/Chanting Sevak/Sevika
4-5 Yrs The Alphabet Safari The text is designed for small kids just learning Alphabets. The lessons connect aphabets to god and explain god through small stories with fun and learning. Shanti Mantras, Guru Sthothram, Medha Suktam Kavithaji
5-6 Yrs Krishna Here, Krishna There & My Twenty Four Teachers Shanti Mantras, Guru Sthothram, Medha Suktam Meenaji
7-8 Yrs Bala Bhaghavatham Bala Bhagavatam. As the name implies, it is a much much simpler version of the great Bhagavata Purana. The word Purana is derived as 'pura api nava' literally meaning 'new, even though old'. That is, puranas are relevant even in the present times though they are ancient. We will be concentrating on the major avatars of Vishnu and other related stories from the Bhagavatam and the messages that they convey. I am looking forward to recounting the wonderful tales to the students. Shanti Mantras, Guru Sthothram, Medha Suktam Taraji & Alkaji
9-10 Yrs P.O Box to Mr. God An innovative concept to invoke curiosity in kids about God. Subject matter is derived from the text "Ramacharithamanasa" Ayodhya Kanda which describes where god resides - hence the topic name. Shanti Mantras, Guru Sthothram, Medha Suktam Muraliji & Rukmaniji
11+ Yrs Art of Man Making Art of Man Making - a compilation of Swami Chinmayananda's talks on The Geetha. This will deal with the practical application of the teachings in the Geetha that will help the students to learn to deal with any adversities/successes with equanimity and poise. Shanti Mantras, Guru Sthothram, Medha Suktam Sudhaji & Kalji
